As I began reading (Psalm 80:1-11) this morning, I recalled a time awhile back when I offended someone remarkably close to me so profoundly that it caused that person’s expression toward me to change. I hurt that person so deeply that a look of pain or anger replaced the ready, affectionate smile I usually received. I longed for things to be right between us, but each time I did engage with the person, I was reminded that our relationship had been tarnished and strained. Ever been there? The author of (Psalm 80) knew this was what had happened between his people and God. Their continued disobedience and rebellion had resulted in God temporarily withdrawing His favor on them.

Amid the psalmist’ pain and hurt, we see him praying for his people in (vs.3 and 7), “Restore us, O God of hosts; let your face shine, that we may be saved!” The psalmist was asking God to help his people change their course so He could smile on them again. He was praying God would help them live differently so God could bless his people again.

Throughout the Scriptures, we are reminded that God responds to this kind of prayer. God is ready to lead us on the right paths if we are prepared to follow Him, (Proverbs 3:5-6) tells us, “Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.”

Friends, Do you feel that some of your recent thoughts or actions have failed to live up to God’s will for your life? Do not let a lack of words stop you from turning to Him in your time of need. God desires to smile on you today with blessings. Would you join me in this prayer?

You, Lord, are forgiving and good, abounding in love to all who call to You. Hear my prayer, oh Lord; listen to my cry for mercy. When I am in distress, I call to You because You answer me. I have fallen short of Your glory and need Your help to overcome. I pray that You light my steps and lead me out of the darkness and back into Your light. Amen.

God Bless and have a Blessed Day, Friends <><
