Give the king your justice, O God, and your righteousness to the royal son! May he judge your people with righteousness, and your poor with justice! Let the mountains bear prosperity for the people, and the hills, in righteousness! May he defend the cause of the poor of the people, give deliverance to the children of the needy, and crush the oppressor! (Psalm 72:1-4)
Although Psalm 72 is attributed to the writing of King Solomon, the son of King David. As we read (vs. 1-11) in their entirety, we notice that Solomon sought justice from God, and as he did, he mentioned another King was coming, a King Who would be called Just. As Solomon sought righteousness from God, a King was coming Who would be called Righteous. That King has come, and His Name is Jesus
We know that all world rulers have been put in their place of power to keep order globally. All believers in Christ are instructed to submit to these authorities, as (1 Peter 2:13-14) tells us, “Be subject for the Lord’s sake to every human institution, whether it be to the emperor as supreme, or to governors as sent by him to punish those who do evil and to praise those who do good.” The purpose of our Kings and Rulers is merely to upkeep the world. Most importantly, they are to point us to the true King Who has come and will be coming again in all His glory. This King, Jesus, will execute perfect justice. He will be feared and worshiped. All kings will bow at His feet, and He will have dominion overall. Jesus will cause His enemies to fall, and all praise and honor and glory will be due to His mighty Name.
Friends, Jesus is the fulfillment of all current kingships. Our rulers point to Christ in that they have been placed in positions of authority over us. Yet as sinners, they fail in their attempts to rule with justice and righteousness. Jesus is the only King Who is right in all His ways. We need to trust that the justice and righteousness that is lacking today will be found in King Jesus at the time of His returning. Would you pray with me?
Father God, all good leaders come from You. Lord, this nation needs leaders with discerning hearts and wise minds. We come to You today asking You to give us wise leaders that will lead this nation in the right direction. Remove wrong people that are corrupt and living against Your Word from influential positions. Let our leaders be people who honor Your Holy Name, for it is only from You that they will get true wisdom. It is in the Mighty Name of Jesus that we believe and pray, Amen.
God Bless and have a Blessed Day, Friends <><
