Oh, give thanks to the LORD, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever! Let the redeemed of the LORD say so, whom he has redeemed from trouble and gathered in from the lands, from the east and from the west, from the north and from the south. (Psalm 107:1-3)
As I began studying (Psalm 107:1-16) this morning, verses 1-3 reminded me of living in Michigan. My family and I were blessed to have lived less than a mile away from Lake Huron, one of Michigan’s many freshwater Lakes. There were times when Lake Huron would be calm as glass. We liked the calm days because it was great to skip stones along the water surface of Lake Huron. There was an art to throwing these stones as you had to throw them exactly right to get them to skip across the water, the goal being to see how many times you could get the rocks to skip; of course, the more skips you got, the better. The more stones you cast, the better you got and the more skips you got.
The psalmist that penned (Psalm 107) was encouraging us to give thanks to the Lord. The same word used for giving thanks is also used to describe the act of throwing or casting something, like a rock. Imagine that you were standing at the edge of the vast riches of God’s Blessings in your life. Beside you is a pile of smooth rocks (things to be thankful for). In prayer, pick up the rocks and skip your thanksgiving to the throne of God. See how often you can thank God for what He has done in your life, through your life, and all around you.
Friends, may we daily cast our prayers of thanksgiving to the Lord because He is good. Isn’t the mercy that God has bestowed upon us worthy of a million rocks of praise? May we get skipping those rocks of Praise to our Lord? Would you pray with me?
Father, thank you for Your incredible power and work in my life. Thank You for Your goodness and all Your blessings over me. Thank You that You can bring hope through even the toughest of times, strengthening me for Your purposes.
Thank You for Your great love and care. Thank You for Your mercy and grace. Thank You that You are always with me and will never leave me. Thank You for Your incredible sacrifice so that I might have freedom and life.
Forgive me for when I do not thank You enough for Who You are, for all that You do, and for all that You have given me. Would you please help me to set my eyes and my heart on You each day? Renew my spirit, fill me with Your peace and joy.
I love You and need You, this day and every day. I give You praise and thanks, for You alone are worthy! In the precious Name of Jesus, Amen.
God Bless and have a Blessed Day, Friends <><
