Remembering Shawn Willey

The Morning Show takes time to remember The Bridge Listener, Volunteer, and Dear Friend – Shawn Willey pastor of Abundant Life Christian Church, in Laurel Delaware, who unexpectedly went home to be with Jesus Christ on Monday, October 14, 2019.

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. ~ John 10:10 (NIV)

Shawn Willey pastor of Abundant Life Christian Church, Laurel Delaware, unexpectedly went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, October 14, 2019. He went above and beyond in the community coaching and mentoring the football teams, both Laurel and Woodbridge, while also being an avid volunteer with FCA, serving and sharing with Delmarva Teen Challenge, and square one, enjoying quality time serving the Lord and eating breakfast with his brothers at SMA, and many more uncountable acts of love and service.

Being naturally gifted in many ways including: building and painting birdhouses, playing the drums for the church choir, and most recently starting his business “oxidation creations” modeling and weathering trains. He was a light that had shown through the darkness for those who needed a helping hand, a shoulder to cry on, and a friend to call with no judgment. He truly was an inspiration and had an influential part to all who crossed his path. He always had a kind and encouraging word to say with a huge smile on his face.

Most of all, he loved his family and church family. He started Abundant Life Christian Church in January 2013, pouring his entire heart and soul into helping others understand God’s love and to be a true disciple of Jesus Christ. Between his ”happy dance” and his famous sayings like “ Come as you are, just don’t stay that way“, and “True belief in Jesus will change your character“. He did everything to be a true servant and show the love of Christ through himself.

He is survived by his wife, Wendy Willey, his daughter, Courtney Willey and boyfriend/adopted son Kyle Conway, his mother, Karen Draper and her husband Richard, his father, Wendell Hudson, his two brothers, T.J. Willey and wife Kandi, and Troy Willey and wife Kalena.

To honor him we will be having a celebration of life at 2:00 pm at Eagles Nest Fellowship Church, 26633 Zion Church Rd, Milton, DE 19968 on Sunday, October 20, 2019 with a visitation held at 1pm prior to the service.
